An entire orchestra abandons the score

Baroque orchestra Tafelmusik recently took a bold move by memorizing an entire symphony. Their memorization technique was so rigorous that performers actually undertook the exercise of transcribing all the notes of a piece onto a blank score. Does the appeal of watching such mental dexterity enough to draw people to concerts? And do they play better? Certainly the success of this project bodes well for the future of large memorized ensembles.
