Misunderstanding

The concept of cultural misunderstanding focuses on the relationship between the audience and the institution, specifically by seeking to understand the discrepancies that can arise between an institution’s offering and the expectations of those who attend the event. The performance of artworks can thus be affected by a relationship constructed on false premises or that simply does not produce the intended outcome. The misunderstanding evokes unease, conflicts, and awkward situations, and yet the forms of disagreement that emerge between the different actors in such situations also provide a better sense of the dynamics among them.
