A brief history of applause at classical music concerts

From Mozart to Boulez, how have composers thought about applause? Have we always applauded in the same way for works from the classical repertoire? And what are today’s conventions? Finally, can we applaud between two movements of a symphony or concerto?

In order to answer to these questions, the members of the research team of the DMAQ have consulted musicologists, historians, conductors and have traveled to archives at the heart of great musical institutions.

Join them in diving into the history of classical concerts and learn all the facets of the subtle art of applause!
