Founded in 2016, the mission of the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York (PONY) is to help young audiences develop a taste for opera and the concert experience. In order to achieve this, technology is used and synchronised with the music; program notes and films are shown on screens behind the performers. The interplay of music and image helps the audience to connect to classical music in a new “multi-sensorial” way. Will this connection to imagery help young audiences develop the listening skills that will make them a new audience for opera and classical music ?
