The Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville (FIMAV) has increased access to contemporary music, especially for its 31st edition. Indeed, its 11,000-person audience have been particularly compelled by outdoor art installations. Journalist Jérôme Delgado describes a popular project by Sarah l’Hérault, called 124 portes de chars. Her work is set amongst car doors, and a tape plays the sounds of honking and slamming. Is outdoor music a way to pique people’s interest in contemporary music? Could it draw people indoors to the concert hall? If not, should the outdoors simply become a new concert venue?
