A new cultural movement seems to characterize Iceland, according to the journalist Guy Damman. Many Icelandic musicians with classical backgrounds take part in the production of popular music as well. For example, members of Sigur Rós’s band studied music at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts. Their expertise and training are evident from the way they execute their popular music, such as skilfully using a bow on a guitar. Therefore, boundaries between classical and pop genres seem less pronounced than in Europe. See more examples here:
