According to a comparative study of how 15,000 Canadians use their spare time, led by Statistique Canada from 1986 to 2010, Québécois work four more hours each week compared to the previous generation. On this topic, researcher and DMAQ member Rosaire Garon, retired professor associated with the Département d’études en loisir, culture et tourisme at the UQTR, provides an interesting commentary on conceptions of time, which she has seen change for the youth of the digital era: ”This is the biggest irony of our modern world. We want to do more and more things in a shorter and shorter amount of time. From a psychological angle, the notion of time has changed. There is a constant arbitration of the time that can be spent on an activity. Moreover, youth in the digital age replace the linear conception of time with a sense of overlapping activities; we can work, socialize on Facebook, and watch television, all at the same time.” Click here to read the article!
