For a couple of years, the line-ups of music festivals in North America have struggled to stand out from one another. Since artists plan to tour festivals, these line-ups become more and more similar. In addition, the number of festivals has increased. In 1999, Coachella was once the only festival to offer indie pop music. Now, we can add Governors Ball and Panorama (New York), Bonnaroo (Tennessee), Lollapalooza (Chicago), Osheaga (Montréal), WayHome (Ontario), and others. As a result, it is becoming difficult for music festivals to preserve a singular identity, which is largely defined by its particular program.
