The cost of producing concerts will be greater than the average increase of the rest of the economy. The Symphonic Orchestra of Québec (OSQ) is not the only ensemble to live with this issue. According to economist Gérard Bélanger, this slow growth in the productivity of concerts, in contrasting with the rest of the economy, can be seen in the struggles of 32 American orchestras: “From 1987 until 2005, the amount spent for concerts [by these orchestras] tripled, while final costs for goods exiting the factory only increased by 48%.
